The inboard drum brakes all around are a dead giveaway. I also just noticed the leaf springs shared by both the front and rear suspension. Then of course there’s the V4 engine... Man, these little trucklets are weird.
SO FRICKIN’ CUTE THO.
I believe there’s another one at Disneyland as well, although the layouts of the camps as well as the colors of the overturned mini Jeeps are different.
Who would’ve thought some of the best views you can find of the underside of a Mighty Mite are at Disney parks? I do wonder why they chose these obscure, weird, relatively rare vehicles instead of the much more common and recognizable Jeep? Perhaps the smaller size really was that important? Whatever the case, I’m glad they at least finally got these to turn over...

When I was in the Corps I believe I heard the requirement for that was to fit in a Chinook.

The Chin ook can fit a Humvee as long as you don’t care about people being able to get in or out of it during the trip. I guess the Mite would be a bit more flexible in that regard.

“its four-cylinder, air-cooled V8 engine” Um... Wat?

IIRC it was designed to be small and light enough to be easily transported via aircraft and deployed via parachute. I think they did see some action during the war, but only towards the end and not for very long because at that point technology had caught up so it was no longer necessary. I still wish they’d kept building them after the war like the Jeep, though. It’d be great if there were more of these things.

Yeah... Btw, was that engine ever used in anything else? Seems weird to develop a whole engine for just one vehicle...

I have no indications that it had any other use. I don’t see why it could not have been used for industrial purposes or a compact car. I am sure it was a money loser for AMC, unless the government fully funded the project.
